Controlling a Live Call

Once you are on a live call, whether it is incoming or outgoing, you will have the same features and functions available to you. When you are talking on a call, the softphone will look like this:

The buttons on this screen have the following functions:

  1. Speaker Select - Switch between a headset and speakers, if a headset is present. Click the icon, then click the speakers/headset you wish to use for the call. Audio will immediately be switched to that device. 


  2. Hold - Allows holding a resuming a call. Click the gray hold icon to place a call on hold. The timer will change to On Hold, and the hold button becomes a resume button:

    When a call is on hold, click the green resume button to keep talking. 


  3. Hang-up - Immediately ends the call. Click the red telephone icon to end the call. 


  4. Mute - Stops the caller from hearing your audio without placing them on-hold (they hear silence). Click the microphone icon to mute your audio. When muted, the microphone icon has a strike through:


    Click the struck-through microphone icon while muted to unmute yourself. 


  5. Dialpad - Allows dialing touch tone menu options. Click the dialpad icon to display the dialpad, then click or type the numbers you wish to enter. Click the dialpad icon again to close the dialpad. When displayed during an active call, the dialpad looks like this:



  6. Conference Call - Allows adding multiple people to the same call for an impromptu conference. To add someone to the call click the conference icon. The main dialpad screen appears with your active call listed at the bottom:


    You may either select Contacts on the left to pick a number from your address book, or manually enter a number via typing, pasting, or clicking the number keys:


    Click the green telephone icon to dial the number:


    Click the merge calls icon, circled above, to join yourself and the two other ends of your calls together. The call will proceed with all three parties:


    Once joined together, you can hang up the call as normal using the red telephone icon, or split the calls using the split calls icon (circled above). If you click the split calls icon, you will see both parties you are talking to listed. Click the caller you wish to speak with, the other party will be placed on hold:



  7. Attended Transfer - Allows you to transfer a call to another extension or phone number by first speaking to the person receiving the transfer, and then sending the caller over. To begin an attended transfer, click the crossing arrows icon. The current call will be placed on hold, and a keypad will be presented. You may either select Contacts on the left to pick a number from your address book, or manually enter a number via typing, pasting, or clicking the number keys:


    Click the green telephone icon to dial the call. The call will connect, and you will be talking with only the new number that you dialed:


    Click the attended transfer icon to finish the transfer process. The call will leave your phone and be transferred to the number you dialed:



  8. Blind Transfer - Transfers your active call to another extension or phone number immediately, without you speaking with the transfer destination first. To initiate an attended transfer, click the single arrow icon.  The current call will be placed on hold, and a keypad will be presented. You may either select Contacts on the left to pick a number from your address book, or manually enter a number via typing, pasting, or clicking the number keys:


    Click the green phone icon to initiate the transfer immediately. You will briefly see a Transfer completed message at the top of the window, follow by the softphone returning to the main Dialpad screen:
