Call Parking - How to Park and Retrieve Calls

The Call Parking feature allows you to place a call on hold on one phone, and then pick up that call on a different phone. The method for parking and call retrieval varies depending  on the type of phone you are using. This article will provide a general overview of the feature, as well as instructions for specific phone models where possible.

General Overview
Call Parking is a feature that allows you to move calls between phones. Parking is similar to transferring, but parking allows any phone to pick up a parked call. Call Transferring is typically used in SMB office environments, whereas Call Parking is used more frequently in retail stores, restaurants, and warehouses.

Default Parking Extensions
The default parking extension is: 700
The default parking spaces are: 701 - 720

Process to Park a Call (Automatic Parking Space Numbering)
To park a call and have the system assign a parking space automatically, follow these steps:

  1. Initiate a transfer. This is typically done by pressing the "Xfer" button below the screen.
  2. Enter extension 700 as the destination and press the Dial or Send button.
  3. After a few seconds, you will hear the number of the space where the call has been parked (for example, "Seven. Zero. One.").
  4. Complete the transfer *typically by pressing the same "Xfer" button that started the transfer.
  5. The call will disappear from your phone. It can now be retrieved on a different phone using the instructions in the "Process to Pick Up a Parked Call" below.

Process to Park a Call (Manual Parking Space Numbering)
If you would prefer, you can blind transfer a call directly to a particular parking space number. This allows for quicker parking. However, two calls cannot be parked in the same parking space number at the same time. Manual space selection is less versatile as a result.

To park a call into a manually selected parking space number, follow these steps:

  1. Initiate a transfer. This is typically done by pressing the "Xfer" button below the screen.
  2. Enter the extension of the parking space where you wish to park the call (default parking space numbers are 701 through 720). Press the Dial or Send button.
  3. Complete the transfer (typically by hanging up).
  4. The call will disappear from your phone. It can now be retrieved on a different phone using the instructions in the "Process to Pick Up a Parked Call" below.

Process to Pick Up a Parked Call
To pick up a parked call, simply dial the parking space number the same way you would dial any other phone number. You will immediately be connected with the caller, and the space where they were parked is now free for further use.
